Hi guys, Sam Fury here with another episode of the Survival Fitness Plan, your ultimate flight and fight fitness training program.
This is a bit of an impromptu, an impromptu one because I just got back from a Chinese acupressure, acupuncture session. And it wasn't really just acupuncture, it was traditional Chinese medicine, and it's the first time I've ever had acupuncture.
I learned about traditional Chinese medicine a while ago. And I was really interested in it at the time, but I just never went anywhere with it. It was in Indonesia. I went to it, it was a Javanese massage, but it all works off the TCM, traditional Chinese massage, meridians, and its acupressure, is what it was.
And it was basically the same as the one in the Chinese version. Because I've had acupressure in China, because I used to live in China, did so for three years. And I used to get acupressure on the feet, and man, it hurt. And I used to put my... Feet in like a big bowl, bowl, or bucket of hot ginger tea, right?
And then you'd soak it in there for about 10 minutes and then that'd give you this really painful acupressure. I mean it's not, it's not super painful for, if you're used to it, but the first time, the first couple of times you go it's pretty painful. And and then even afterward, so you walk, when you walk out, and this is the middle of winter in China.
And then you walk out and your feet are still sweating because of the ginger and this is like an hour and a half later, right? So that was so I've had a few experiences with traditional Chinese medicine and of course my, my background, my Chinese my dad's side, my father's side is Chinese.
So, my grandparents were like, they weren't super healthy, I didn't really speak to them much. But anyway. So. That's got nothing to do with it, I'm just rambling. But, so I went to this traditional Chinese acupuncture. The reason is, is because my mother, my stepmother, and her sister recently had a stroke.
And so they started going to this acupuncture to help. And so then my momma just went there as well, because why not? And then they were talking about it the other night. And I was, I just was just talking to them. I said, I've never done that, I've always been interested in that. And they were like, alright, come along.
And so, as you may or may not know, I've had a shoulder injury for a little while. And I've had a few stomach issues. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis a few years ago. I think it stems from while I was in Africa and I don't know the core reason for it But I've had some problems for a while.
I just never treated him. I guess I should have gotten on it further anyway So as soon as I walked in the lady was Chinese Malay She speaks three languages fluently. She's really smart. She comes up to me and she's like Probably shoulder. It's like Yeah. I was like, how did you know that? And she was like, I can just see.
You can just see by the way I walk in, right? I don't have a problem with that. And she's like, show me your tongue. She shows me her tongue and she's like, I've got stomach problems. I've also got liver problems. And I didn't know anything about the liver, but she's like, hmm. And then so she so she pretty much guesses all these things.
It's like, told me a bunch of other stuff, stuff that I, some I did know, some I didn't know. And I was like, wow, that's pretty, It's pretty spot on that she can tell all that just by looking at my tongue, right? And then and then she gets this odd guy who's actually the master, I imagine, and he's like full Chinese, can't speak any English, and he looks at my tongue and he concurs, right?
And so then they write all this stuff down in Chinese, and then I go to the back, and they start doing acupuncture on me, and they put, like, he started off with just two needles in the back of my knees, and I felt this tingle sensation go all the way down my leg, right? And then, and then I couldn't move my leg for like the whole session.
I tried. I could wiggle my toes, but I couldn't physically, I mean, I didn't try super, super hard, but I was trying and I couldn't physically lift it up, right? So, it wasn't and yeah, so that happened. And I was like, oh, alright, this is something. And then and then he started to work and he did all the stuff and did a lot of cupping.
And if you see my back I don't know if you're, if you're listening to this you won't see it, but it's, for those of you that are watching on camera, you can see like. The little red blotches or whatever. That's from cupping. I've never done cupping either, right? So it was more cupping than it was than it was acupuncture.
I remember talking while I was talking and she's like, listen all your stomach problems are because of greasy food and cold, cold stuff. And I was like, yeah, because over China is a new year, which is very recently. And the last couple of days, since I've been in Malaysia, I've been eating a lot. I've been eating really badly drinking more alcohol than usual and just eating a lot of greasy foods.
And so I've had a few of my stomach's not being a hundred percent, right? But then also she's like, yeah, so just stop one of your triggers are cold, like don't drink cold water, don't drink cold wine, don't drink cold beer, whatever, just stay away from cold. Right. And grace. Like fat, but I mean to be fair that's bad for everyone So but she says it's especially bad for me and then she was like don't make your stomach angry So you make your stomach angry you're gonna get a stroke around your lips, right?
You see people that drool consistently or whatever that's because they have a stroke and it affects their lips and that's because it stems from The stomach she said if your spleen Was it my spleen? Or my liver? You have a stroke in your liver, and it affects your eyes, and you get droopy eyes or whatever, and you know, some people get headaches or whatever, and I get that, but I always thought it was from staring at the computer, and I think, I feel like, like, half of it's from, like, the reasons I know about, and maybe, like, some of it's got to do with that as well.
So, yeah. And then at the end, she gave me these, she gave me a tincture, I've never, I haven't had a tincture but given to me in a long, long time. And it's like an herbal medicine mixed with alcohol right? And she's like, drink half of this now, drink half before you go to sleep, drink, and then, and then she's like, I'd like to see you again.
I was like, I'm leaving, I'm leaving in two days, going to America, and she says come back on Thursday morning then. I was like, alright, come back on Thursday morning. So there you go. It cost me 80 ringgit, which is about 20 bucks, which is pretty good because if I got the same thing in the States or in Australia probably cost me about 150 Australian or American dollars So that's pretty decent and I said, oh she's like it'd be good if you come back But since you can't you know, I can't do much for you I was like, well, maybe I can find someone in the States and she's like, yeah But just be careful about who you pick because there are lots of people out there that they can do like she saw I could teach You how to do acupuncture, but it doesn't mean they know how to Diagnose they only know how to do the motions, right?
So just be careful They can do it for you, but they won't be able to actually cure the problems. And then she said like stop taking whatever you're taking for your stomach and take this tea instead. So she told me the tea, but I said I couldn't take it because when you cross borders foreign borders don't like you taking flowers and stuff in, right?
So I will find it, I'll be able to find it in the Asian grocery stores or whatever wherever I go. So there you go. So it got me thinking on the car ride home. Whether I should maybe start looking more into traditional Chinese medicine again. I remember when I did it in Indonesia, I was really into it.
And I learned I don't think I'd ever do acupuncture. Seems a bit because that's a bit more, you know what I mean? I wouldn't want to do it because I don't want to devote my whole life to it. And that seems like a thing where you've got to really know your stuff because you're sticking needles in people.
But acupressure for sure because it's just like, it's the same but you're just using your fingers, right? And she actually showed me some massage techniques to help my shoulder. Alright? And they worked like pretty much straight away. It's just, and that's what I remember learning that in, in the acupressure course, right?
So I might have to do that. And it's good because it's like in the survival fitness plan, there's like different levels of like how to cure training injuries. And a lot of them come from the how to, how to be a supple leopard. I forgot his name, but he's like the top foremost person on that on like training injuries.
Right. And then maybe we can just incorporate a bit of Chinese stuff, like traditional Chinese. Acupressure, pressure point stuff in it as well because that like helps solve the root causes, and a bit of herbal tea and stuff like that. But it definitely won't be part of this yet because I've got to learn it and it'll probably take me a few years, right?
So I'll get this off the ground first and then when I've got more time I'll study that in and I'll start incorporating that in there probably sometime in the future. So I just wanted to share that, that's the possibilities of what might happen, I'm not saying it will, but I definitely, even if it's just for my own personal interest or maybe as a separate little thing I can create like a separate little course or whatever that's got nothing to do with this fall fitness plan But it's all percolating in my mind and I'll definitely even if it's just a personal interest I'll definitely look into it more because I like it and it works and Yeah, there you go.
All right. That's it for today guys. Hope you enjoyed this little Sideway of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I feel like it is kind of maybe the original biohacking because they like to use other stuff I mean, there's some crazy stuff. I'm not gonna go and cut off tiger balls and crush them up, right? But certainly herbal medicine like that's in Western medicine, you know, all medicines all modern medicines are derived from Flowers at some point, right?
And yeah, so it's all, well, maybe not all these days, but definitely 20 years ago before we had all this super technology, now they've like all the synthetics and that, they all derive from like all morphine and that all derives from opium, right? And so it's all a bit like that. Anyway yeah, it's worth looking into.
I was really surprised by the tongue, I showed her my tongue, she's like this, this, this, and this, and I was like, wow, that's incredible. It'd be awesome if I could do that. Right, someone shaves me that time and I'm like, bam, bam, bam. And then be like, yeah, massage at this point. And take this helpful medicine.
And you'll hopefully get better. Alright, that's it for today guys. Thanks for tuning in. Don't forget to like, subscribe and share. Don't forget to download the Survival Fitness Plan app. It's currently free. But it won't be for long. So, go do that now at www.survivalfitnessplan.com/app
