My Most Memorable Climbs

I’ve climbed in quite a few places around the world…

Unfortunately, I’ve forgotten about most of them.

But here are a few that have stuck with me. And not just because (or not even because of) the scenery.

Read on to discover what they are and why they have stuck in my memories.

Wilyabrup

The first memorable climb is in a place called Wilyabrup, which is located in Australia's southwest.

I went here as part of Outdoor Leadership training to practice my roping skills with my fellow students.

The great thing about it was that it was in the sea cliffs.

While climbing, you get a great view of the ocean and see the waves crashing against the rocks, which was really cool.

China

I once had a job teaching English in a ‘small’ town in Northern China.

It is considered a small town in China, but it still had a million plus people in it.

Anyway, I had a great view of the mountains from my kitchen window, so one day I decided to hike up one.

It ended up being way harder than I imagined. I thought I would be home by lunchtime… I was not.

Just before dark I hit a point where I either had to scale across a massive drop or go all the way back the way I came.

It was winter and I probably would have frozen to death had I turned back, so I decided to take the risk and climb.

This was probably the one and only time where knowing how to boulder actually saved my life.

Bluff Knoll

Bluff Knoll is the highest point in Western Australia and is part of The Stirling Range.

After a 4-5 day trek we learned how to multi-pitch abseil off it.

It's not really climbing, but the views were spectacular.

Conclusion

So there you have it.

My 3 most memorable climbing experiences.

Climbing is a lot of fun and a great way to stay in shape while seeing some amazing sights.

It may also save your life!
